Job Summary The American Red Cross is seeking a skilled and motivated Biomedical Equipment Technician to join our technical support team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the installation, inspection, calibration, preventive maintenance, and repair of biomedical equipment used in blood collection and processing. Your expertise will ensure that lifesaving equipment operates efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with industry and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and repairs on a variety of biomedical equipment, including apheresis machines, blood refrigerators, centrifuges, and temperature monitoring systems. Calibrate and test equipment to ensure performance meets manufacturer and regulatory standards. Document all maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs in compliance with FDA regulations and internal SOPs. Provide technical support to Red Cross biomedical teams, field staff, and mobile blood drives across assigned regions. Assist with the installation and initial testing of new biomedical equipment and upgrades. Maintain spare parts inventory and ensure tools and calibration equipment are properly maintained. Respond promptly to emergency service calls and troubleshoot issues with minimal downtime. Support quality control programs and internal/external audits. Adhere to all safety procedures, guidelines, and protocols related to equipment and electrical systems. Required Skills and Qualifications Associates degree in Electronics, Biomedical Equipment Technology, or a related technical field. Demonstrated ability to repair and maintain biomedical or electronic equipment. Proficiency in interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and service documentation. Working knowledge of electrical safety standards and biomedical equipment regulations. Valid drivers license and ability to travel regionally when required. Strong communication and documentation skills. Comfortable working independently and within a team in both clinical and laboratory environments. Experience Minimum 1–3 years of hands‑on experience in biomedical equipment repair and maintenance is preferred. Prior experience in a healthcare, laboratory, or blood services setting is a plus. Experience working with regulatory standards including FDA, OSHA, and AABB preferred. Working Hours Full‑Time Position (40 hours/week) Flexible schedule required, including occasional evening, weekend, and on‑call availability to support emergency services and mobile drives. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities. Knowledge of medical and laboratory equipment, and relevant safety standards. Ability to work under time constraints while ensuring compliance and accuracy. Tech‑savvy with familiarity in using digital tools and maintenance tracking systems.
