Job Description Position Summary: The Class C Lineman Transmission is an entry‑level lineman position in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical transmission systems. This position works at various locations and may require travel to other states depending on customer demands. Essential Functions Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de‑energized transmission lines. String overhead wire. Set poles and anchors. Frequently work with energized high‑voltage systems to protect the lives of self and others. Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order. Perform all other related work required to complete the job. Work outdoors, often in inclement weather. Perform rigorous physical labor. Learn transmission voltages on a circuit. Understand induced voltage. Safely set a pole. Read and understand blueprints. Assist with inspection and recognition of structural problems. Work productively from an aerial device. Assist with troubleshooting. Work alone on de‑energized lines. Obtain knowledge of wire‑stringing techniques. Understand how to sag wire from a structure or bucket. Assist with assembly and erection of towers to all heights. Assist with work from an aerial ladder to catch off and clip in. Assist in framing and setting most basic line structures. Assist in framing a de‑energized pole structure in the air. Assist with installation of all types of compression connections. Work at heights and/or in confined spaces. Properly install and remove PPE and cover‑ups. Properly inspect rubber goods, covers, and PPE. Climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) with necessary tools. Tie various lineman knots. Use a hand line. Understand grounding procedures. Understand proper equipment set‑up and grounding procedures. Use Kellum grips appropriately. Identify different types of materials used in line work. Understand minimum approach distance. Understand flag and tag procedures. Perform basic bucket rescue/escape. Minimum Requirements 1–2 years of minimum experience. Perform rigorous physical labor. Read and communicate effectively in English. Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days of employment. Commercial Driver’s License preferred. Travel long distances on short notice when required. Work for extended periods in various locations when required. Lift in excess of 50 lbs. Inspect rubber goods and PPE properly. Work overtime when requested. Glove and work on live high‑voltage transmission lines. Work outside normal hours, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required. Work Environment The employee may be subject to one or more atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system, skin, or general health, such as fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
