CARPENTER JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY: The Carpenter supports the construction team in various construction and renovation projects, including carpentry, painting, tiling, framing, and demolition. Responsibilities include operating tools and machinery, ensuring job site safety, and maintaining high-quality workmanship. This role requires reliability, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic.

TERMS/HOURS: Full-time, M-F

CLASSIFICATION: Hourly/Non-exempt; Travel may be required

Pay Range: $26-$28 an hour (Pay information will vary depending upon relevant experience for the position)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the construction team in all phases of design-build projects, ensuring high-quality workmanship.
  • Follow detailed instructions and plans to complete tasks efficiently and safely.
  • Work independently or as part of a team on a variety of construction, renovation, and finishing projects.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace, adhering to company policies and industry standards.
  • Assist with rough and finish carpentry.
  • Construct and install structural supports, including framing walls, ceilings, and floors.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Assist with safe demolition of existing structures, ensuring minimal damage to surrounding areas.
  • Safely operate hand tools (hammers, saws, drills, chisels, screwdrivers, etc.) and power tools (circular saws, impact drivers, jigsaws, routers, etc.).
  • Operate heavy machinery such as forklifts, skid steers, concrete mixers, and saws when required.
  • Maintain and properly store tools and equipment to ensure longevity and safe operation.
  • Load, unload, and transport materials and supplies to and from job sites.
  • Prepare workspaces, set up scaffolding, ladders, and protective barriers as needed.
  • Ensure proper disposal of waste materials and compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Adhere to all OSHA regulations, safety protocols, and company policies.
  • Wear proper PPE (personal protective equipment) and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Identify and report hazards or maintenance issues on-site.
  • Communicate with team members and supervisors regarding project progress and needs.
  • Keep a detailed inventory of materials, tools, and supplies.
  • Be willing to learn new skills and techniques from the Construction Technician to grow within the role.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EDUCATION:

  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, PPE usage, and safe worksite practices.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification (preferred but not required)
  • Ability to properly care for and use tools of the trade.
  • Successful completion of vocational school or technical college or apprenticeship program; OR at least three years of experience via on-the-job training required.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • At least three years of related carpentry and construction experience required.

SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:

  • The supervision of the production of projects; supervise contractors.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

  • Clean, safe office environment and inside/outside maintenance of buildings and farm.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to safely work with sharp tools or power equipment.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrains.
  • Must have manual dexterity, a good sense of balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination.
