Job Description

Management Sciences for Health (MSH) is seeking a Communications Specialist for a potential World Health Organization (WHO) project. The project's objective is to provide support for the operationalization of the Open Digital Health Summit (ODHS) and associated curriculum strategy in 2025-2027.

This work directly supports the WHO Global Health Strategy for 2025 - 2028 and will drive measurable impact at country level by supporting Member States in developing resilient, essential digital health infrastructure in support of prioritized health sector objectives that are aligned with the emerging WHO-ITU Reference Architecture for digital health transformation, and other existing WHO and ITU normative guidance including SMART guidelines. It includes support for developing and maintaining relevant associated operational guidance, including Reference Architecture for Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and the WHO Classification of digital interventions, services and applications in health (CDISAH).

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Communications Specialist will play a central role in designing, developing, and executing strategic communications that promote project goals, amplify the impact of digital health initiatives, and engage key stakeholders at global, regional, and country levels. This includes creating compelling content, supporting event communications, managing digital platforms, and ensuring alignment with WHO communication standards and MSH branding guidelines.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Develop and implement a strategic communications plan that aligns with project goals, including the promotion of the Open Digital Health Summit (ODHS) and the associated curriculum strategy.

2. Create, edit, and disseminate a wide range of communication materials such as success stories, country profiles, technical briefs, blog posts, newsletters, infographics, and social media content.

3. Support the planning and execution of project-related events (virtual and in-person), including webinars, technical workshops, and global summits-developing event communications, invitations, talking points, and promotional materials.

4. Manage digital content across communication platforms, including websites, email newsletters, and social media, ensuring consistency, timeliness, and adherence to branding guidelines.

5. Collaborate with technical teams to translate complex digital health concepts and findings guidance into accessible, engaging language for various target audiences.

6. Ensure alignment with WHO and MSH branding and communication protocols, obtaining necessary approvals and coordinating with relevant stakeholders.

7. Maintain a communications calendar to track key milestones, events, and deliverables.

8. Support documentation and dissemination of project learnings, guidance documents, and technical resources developed under the project.

9. Contribute to internal communication and knowledge sharing to ensure visibility of project progress and achievements across teams and partners.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Health, International Development, Journalism, Digital Media, or a related field.
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in communications, including producing online and print materials for global audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or managing communications for international events, campaigns, or summits.
  • Proven experience using digital platforms such as Zoom, Webex, and Microsoft Teams for event coordination and communication.
  • Preferred: Experience working in global health, digital health, or international development settings.
  • Prior MSH experience is strongly preferred.

The expected salary range for this position is: $55,000.00 - $80,000.00 annually (U.S. locations only).
