Cooley is seeking a Conflicts Analyst to join the Business Intake and Conflicts team. Position summary: The Conflicts Analyst is responsible for the identification, analysis, and resolution of all conflicts requests, using independent judgment and demonstrating a thorough understanding of the business needs when clearing incoming work and candidates. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Position responsibilities: Analyze and process all conflict requests to ensure that all firm engagements and hires are clear from a business and ethical perspective Prepare database search terms and create conflicts reports for related parties, including high volume, bulk searches Perform corporate research to confirm the identity of related parties and address potential conflicts or high-profile issues Identify existing and potential conflicts by reviewing conflicts reports and supporting documents Interpret database results and conflicts reports for firm partners, counsel, attorneys, and staff Prepare concise descriptions of conflicts based on professional conduct rules Communicate regularly with partners via email and phone to investigate and resolve conflicts Provide updates to attorneys and staff regarding conflicts clearance status Maintain conflict resolution notes and responses for each request Request waivers and confirm conflicts are resolved Draft conflict waivers and engagement letters as needed Advise attorneys of complex conflict issues Implement ethical screens as necessary Stay informed on legal trends and conduct legal ethics research Provide conflicts training to staff as needed Perform other duties as assigned Skills and experience: Required: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, iManage, and firm applications after orientation Availability to work overtime as needed Experience with IntApp Open, Contract Express or similar programs At least 2 years of relevant experience, such as in a law firm or legal department Knowledge of ABA and California State Bar Rules of Professional Conduct Understanding of corporate law practice Legal and corporate research experience Preferred: Bachelor's Degree; JD or complete conflicts resolution experience preferred Paralegal Certificate or ethics course in a paralegal program preferred Previous experience as a paralegal or legal researcher in a law firm Competencies: Excellent communication skills Strong judgment and analytical skills Organizational skills with attention to detail Ability to work independently Adaptability to a fast-paced environment Multitasking ability Professional communication with attorneys and staff Recognition of legal ethical rules in time-sensitive situations Customer service skills Cooley offers competitive compensation and benefits, and is committed to fair employment practices. The hourly pay range is $35.00 - $47.00, based on experience and location.
