WORK DETAILS

Office hours, Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Located at our Support Center, 4000 N Monroe in Hutchinson, KS.

ABOUT THIS CONTROLLER POSITION

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following activities:

  • Oversee the activities of the accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements and coordinates audits with internal audit firm and external year-end audit firms and others associated with audits.
  • Provide accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and management requirements.
  • Establish, maintain, and monitor internal accounting control systems to ensure safe/sound operations, accurate accounting records for the statement of the institution's financial condition, and timely, accurate report data for regulators and management.
  • Coordinate the month end close process, including intercompany eliminations and consolidations; monitor actual financial performance results compared to historical and budgeted results and identify and resolve any variances. Continually look for efficiencies and process improvements.
  • Research and interpret new accounting regulatory pronouncements.
  • Assists with budget preparations and financial analyses. Monitors costs and expenses.
  • Provides leadership to staff regarding workflow, implementation and practice of department procedures and activities.
  • Works to create and maintain a high-quality work environment so team members are motivated to perform at their highest level.
  • Effectively communicates policy/procedure changes and other relevant credit union information to department staff.
  • Pro-actively supports and advances HCU's brand and culture.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CONTROLLER POSITION

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience. CPA preferred but not required
  • Three to five years of accounting experience preferred
  • Ability to assist others, establish and maintain effective working relationships across all departments and business units.
  • Well-organized and attentive to detail.
  • Able to meet deadlines and manage projects
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Proficient in MS Office including Word, Excel and Outlook and related programs.
  • Flexible and open to change.
  • Sedentary work; stationary most of the time.
