Counseling and School Psychology Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice

Primary Purpose and Essential Functions:
University of the Pacific's Benerd College is seeking a colleague to join our Counseling and School Psychology department. Our department houses a variety of programs including a Doctor of Psychology, master's degrees in Marriage and Family Therapy and Professional Clinical Counseling, and a School Psychology program (master's + Educational Specialist degrees).

The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of teaching, advising, research, leadership, service, and the ability to work collaboratively with students, colleagues, and other stakeholders. The position will be based at the Stockton Campus.

This is a nine (9) month appointment with the option to teach during the summer terms. This colleague will hold the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, depending on experience and qualifications. This is a non-tenure track position with eligibility for promotion to Associate and/or full Professor.

The successful candidate will be able to teach a variety of courses across our graduate programs. Candidates with interest in teaching courses in assessment, counseling, and our doctoral theoretical core (e.g., Biological Bases of Behavior, Cognitive and Affective Aspects of Behavior, and Advanced Social Psychology) are especially encouraged to apply. Additionally, the candidate will supervise and/or mentor counselors-in-training, participate in or chair doctoral dissertations, and support ongoing data collection for program improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in Counseling, Clinical, or School Psychology or a closely related field, expected by July 1, 2025.
  • Eligible for licensure as a psychologist in California and commitment to obtain these state credentials if hired.




Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate from an APA-accredited program in Counseling, Clinical, or School Psychology, expected by July 1, 2025.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting students with dissertation development, including serving as dissertation chair.
  • Demonstrated successful hybrid or online teaching experience.
  • Licensure as a psychologist in California.
  • Experience in performing the essential activities of a mental health professional.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially regarding working with students with diverse experiences and perspectives.
  • Demonstrated ability or clear promise of teaching excellence.
  • Demonstrated ability conducting independent research.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university or healthcare setting.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Schedule is dependent on the course and department needs.
