Job Description

The American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI) is seeking a Director of Marketing and Communications to execute the organization's integrated communications strategy. This position is responsible for managing the creation of clear, consistent and impactful content across internal and external channels, including social media, website content and internal newsletters. In addition, the Director will ideate, develop and execute strategies and tactics to amplify AFFI’s event and member engagement efforts, ensuring strong visibility and alignment with organizational goals. This role involves close collaboration with colleagues, members and external partners and is critical to advancing AFFI’s broader strategic objectives.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage the AFFI.org and FrozenAdvantage.org digital properties, ensuring both remain current, engaging and aligned with organizational priorities. Regularly update existing content, identify opportunities for improvement and draft new resources that align with the association’s strategic priorities. Monitor and provide regular updates on site performance and user engagement through analytics tools, using data insights to inform content strategy and improve overall effectiveness.
  • Provide input on AFFI’s social media strategy and lead its execution to ensure measurable outcomes. Shape content direction, manage day-to-day implementation across platforms and oversee relevant vendors to ensure high-quality, on-brand execution.
  • Maintain a dynamic, forward-looking member communications content calendar and ensure consistent, timely messaging that aligns with AFFI’s voice and priorities. Collaborate closely with departments across the organization to ensure content reflects key initiatives and supports strategic goals and objectives. Lead content production and layout.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive event marketing strategies designed to meet or exceed established KPIs, in close collaboration with the events and membership teams. Responsibilities include content development, graphic design and email layout, website updates, advertising and other targeted marketing tactics to ensure successful promotion and seamless campaign execution.
  • Execute a strategy to elevate the association’s reputation, brand awareness and engagement with multiple audiences, including industry stakeholders and trade media.
  • Manage media monitoring service, ensuring accurate search terms and flagging relevant news articles for awareness. Oversee production of AFFI’s biweekly Frozen Express news report.
  • Maintain and update AFFI’s media list.
  • Manage external vendors for the production of graphic design and video needs.
  • Support AFFI events by contributing to the development of show flows, presentation slides, scripting, on-site materials and photography. Provide hands-on assistance with other duties as assigned to help ensure seamless execution and a high-quality experience for attendees.

The successful candidate will have:

Education/experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing or related field including responsibilities for planning, writing, editing, and production of newsletters, web content, marketing literature and other print publications.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of related experience and training in communications and/or marketing.

  • Strong sense of teamwork that builds positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, and a willingness to help others.
  • Experience with WordPress a plus.
  • Experience working for a trade association.
  • Knowledge of food and beverage priority issues.

Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes a robust benefits package and performance incentives. This position is remote on a daily environment with regular in-person meetings in the DC-Metro area.
