Position Overview and Responsibilities:
This Environmental Consultant position performs advanced environmental professional work under the direction of the Environmental Manager for the Division of Waste Resource Management’s Wastewater Management Program located in Tallahassee, FL. The ideal candidate will possess discipline-specific knowledge, and leadership and technical skills needed to promote the sustainability, implementation and efficiency of state and federal regulations related to water quality standards including numeric nutrient criteria, aquatic life and human health-based criteria, whole effluent toxicity testing, and other existing, new or revised standards or rules. This position provides valuable support and expertise to the agency as it relates to water quality criteria in a wastewater context.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of state and federal permitting requirements and procedures.
• Ability to work independently and manage technical projects.
• Ability to understand wastewater treatment (domestic and industrial) concepts and principles.
• Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
• Ability to prioritize workload.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Ability to travel outside Tallahassee to perform the duties of the position and inspect wastewater facilities.
• Knowledge of computer-based data retrieval systems.
• Ability to research and understand state, federal, and local wastewater rules and regulations.
