Health Education Specialist I Position Summary: The position will develop and implement health education activities in a team focused approach with other department staff. Assists in culturally sensitive evaluation and plan research activities as needed, research and implement curriculums as well as other educational materials. Essential Functions: Conducts and coordinates activities related to various grant funded health education programs. Assists in evaluation activities including but not limited to survey taking, conducting key informant interviews, etc, on an as needed basis. Provides training and technical assistance to tribal organizations, health clinics, and American Indian community members. Assists in monitoring specifically funded program activities and special projects as assigned. Disseminates updated information to project membership as needed and/or requested. Assists with the development of program activities, curriculum, progress reports and educational materials. Serves as a health education resource to tribal organizations, American Indian organizations, as well as other professional organizations who serve American Indians and their communities. Serve as a collaborator between CRIHB office and the related health agencies to implement program activities. Acts as representative with various statewide workgroups, networks, and/or task forces. Pursue funding to sustain and expand program activities, resources and longevity. Regular and predictable attendance. Other duties as assigned. Additional Responsibilities: Maintain a valid, unrestricted California Driver’s license and ability to be insurable under CRIHB’s automobile insurance. If employee has a valid license from another state, he/she must obtain a CA license within 2 months of hiring date. Position requires 50-60% travel throughout California. Requires ability to drive up to 7 hours a day. Qualifications: Bachelor’s in health education or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with two years’ experience in health promotion/disease prevention program implementation. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience in the public health field and evaluation preferred. Ability to work on various computer programs such as word processing, and graphics. Reports to: Deputy Director Salary Grade : $32.84 an hour FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt This position requires an awareness and keen appreciation of American Indian traditions, customs and socioeconomic needs and the ability at all times to meet and deal effectively in contacts with Indian organizations which requires tact, courtesy, discretion, resourcefulness, and good judgment in handling functions of a sensitive nature. Preference in hiring is given to qualified American Indians in accordance with the Indian Preference Act (Title 25, U.S. Code, Sections 472 and 473).
