Description This position supports the mission and work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization. The Personal Trainer provides a personalized, safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels; modifies training programs as needed to meet varied health, ability, and cultural needs; and effectively builds community. The Personal Trainer provides direct instruction and assures the well-being for each participant while using YMCA of the USA guidelines and Association policies in accordance with their training. This results in a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Demonstrates the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in relationships with colleagues, members, volunteers, vendors and guests.
- Provides personal training in accordance with YMCA guidelines and certification accreditation supporting members and program participants in achieving their goals.
- Maintains proper records; prepares required reports as directed, as well as, provides participants with recommendations for continued health and wellness development.
- Maintains client confidentiality at all times, especially personal health information.
- Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members, and obtain CEU's/CEC's as per certification requirements.
- Communicates with participants in a timely and professional manner including scheduling and answering questions that will support a positive experience with the Y.
- Follows all Health and Wellness procedures and guidelines including those pertaining to health and safety, sessions, forms, reports, and staff expectations.
- Develops positive relationships with participants and provides motivational support and guidance.
- Ambassador of all YMCA programs with a focus on Health and Wellness programs, promotions, schedules, and member engagement.
- Maintains physical presence at all times with participants and remains aware of surroundings.
- Knows, follows, and enforces all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures, and those for the prevention of child abuse.
- Attends all mandatory meetings and trainings.
Requirements - Certification and accreditations in personal training, areas of expertise, and programs assigned
- At least one (1) year of personal training experience preferred
- Must be able to demonstrate personal training skills in accordance with YMCA standards
- Possess the ability to observe and instruct participants in proper fitness techniques
- Must be people oriented, possess professional communication and organizational skills
- Must have a passion for helping others, patience, and the ability to adjust to evolving situations
- Demonstrated ability to teach and assist in fitness activities within a busy Health and Wellness environment
- Ability to work well with others in a largely diverse population
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including some weekends and holidays
- Valid CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required at hire
- Must obtain YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 60 days of hire
