Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.:
  • Masters degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program, or related library science program, with a concentration in archives.
  • Experience processing physical archival collections and creating finding aids using recognized descriptive standards (e.g., DACS, EAD).
  • Knowledge of preservation and conservation best practices for physical archival materials and collection management.
  • Experience working with non-text-based archival collections, including art, artifacts, A/V, photographs, obsolete technologies, etc.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with ArchivesSpace or similar service to facilitate all levels of collection management.
  • Knowledge of copyright and intellectual property issues related to archives and digital collections.
  • Experience collaborating on digitization initiatives and working with digital repositories, including designing and executing workflows for the ingest and preservation of born-digital and digitized materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver public programs, exhibitions, or instructional sessions.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct reference services in-person and online to both external and internal patrons.
Job Description:

Texas State University Libraries is seeking a Processing Archivist to play a key role in preserving, organizing, and ensuring access to its physical collections. This position focuses on arranging, describing, and rehousing archival materials, conducting preservation assessments, and preparing finding aids to support discovery and research use. The Processing Archivist also collaborates with the Digitization and Preservation teams to identify materials for potential digitization and works with donors and partners to support the strategic growth of collections. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the long-term stewardship of cultural and historical resources and to engage with both local and broader communities to promote access and awareness.

Job Duties:
  • Process physical archival collections under the direction of the Head of Special Collections and Archives, including accessioning, surveying, arranging, and describing new and backlogged materials.
  • Collaborate with Digitization and Preservation to promote digital discovery and access to special collections.
  • Collaborate with Special Collections and Archives team and partners on acquisitions, programming, and research opportunities and activities.
  • Engage in professional and/or subject disciplines, research, or publishing that will have a significant, positive impact on primary source literacy of TXST students, and advance the strategic plans of University Libraries and the university.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
