Location: Remote (serving students in Nevada)

We are seeking a qualified and compassionate Remote Sign Language Interpreter to provide virtual interpretation services for deaf and hard-of-hearing students in a K12 educational setting in Nevada . This fully remote position supports equitable communication access by facilitating real-time interpretation between students, teachers, staff, and families using American Sign Language (ASL) and other appropriate communication methods.
Provide real-time ASL interpretation during virtual classroom sessions, small group instruction, school-wide events, and individual student meetings.
Accurately interpret both expressively and receptively between spoken English and ASL, conveying the full meaning, tone, and intent.
Ensure compliance with IEPs and Section 504 Plans , supporting accessible instruction and school participation.
Collaborate with teachers, special educators, speech-language pathologists, and related service providers.
Prepare for lessons and sessions by reviewing materials and participating in virtual team planning meetings when needed.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in accordance with FERPA and school district policies.
Promote Deaf awareness and help school staff implement best practices for working with deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
Assist with the integration and use of assistive technologies or captioning tools as appropriate.
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
Valid certification:
EIPA score of 3.5 or higher , or
RID Certification (NIC, CI/CT, CDI) , or
BEI Certification
Must meet Nevada Department of Education qualifications for educational interpreters
High school diploma or GED (Associate or Bachelors degree preferred)
At least 1 year of experience working with K12 students in an educational or related setting
Reliable internet access and a quiet, private workspace suitable for remote interpreting
Experience using remote interpreting platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet)
Familiarity with IEP development and special education terminology
Understanding of Deaf culture and inclusive educational practices
Background in K12 general or special education environments
High-speed internet
Modern computer or laptop with webcam and microphone
Familiarity with video relay/interpreting software and secure school communication platforms
Willingness to train on district-specific virtual learning tools
Strong communication and listening skills
Flexibility to adapt to varying classroom and student needs
High level of cultural awareness and sensitivity to Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities
Strong organization and time management skills
