\n\n \n School Counselor – Key Responsibilities \n
Academic Counseling & Postsecondary Planning
\nGuide students in academic planning, course selection, and graduation requirement tracking.
\nEnsure 100% of students develop and update their Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP).
\nProvide targeted support to students at risk of falling behind in credits or off-track for graduation.
\nAdvise on dual credit/enrollment options, ACT/SAT prep, and summer learning opportunities.
\nSocial-Emotional Learning (SEL) and Direct Services
\nDeliver SEL lessons and small group counseling aligned to the comprehensive counseling program and school's values.
\nOffer direct support for student well-being and identity development, including topics such as mental health, peer relationships, time management, and stress.
\nKeep detailed records of sessions and progress, using data to inform supports and programming.
\nCollaborate with educators to support a culturally responsive and trauma-informed classroom culture.
\nResponsive Services
\nProvide immediate and short-term individual or group counseling in response to student needs.
\nParticipate in crisis response and safety planning for students in need of urgent support.
\nFacilitate peer mediation and conflict resolution processes.
\n Refer students and families to appropriate internal and community-based resources when necessary.
Systems-Level Collaboration
\nParticipate in school-wide support teams, including IEP, 504, MTSS, CARE, and Student of Concern meetings.
\nCollaborate with teachers, deans, and leaders to identify trends in student behavior, academics, and wellness.
\nSupport implementation of restorative practices and trauma-informed strategies across campus.
\nOrganize and lead school-wide programming, such as Career Day, Mental Health Awareness events, and parent workshops.
\n\n \n School Counselor Qualifications \n
Required:
\nMaster’s degree or higher in School Counseling, Education, Social Work, or a related mental health discipline.
\nMissouri School Counseling Certification (K–12 or 9–12), or eligibility to obtain.
\nMust be eligible to work in the U.S.
\nCriminal Background Check and TB Clearance
\nPreferred:
\nPrevious experience working in a K–12 school setting
\nExperience conducting staff training or coaching
\n Environment: Occasional exposure to typical school conditions including dust, noise, and changing environments.
Activity: Regular standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Sensory: Ability to perform essential job duties with or without assistive devices or accommodations, including in moderate to high noise environments.
