Position: SOLIDWORKS Mechanical Designer
Location: Huntsville, AL
Type: 12+ Month Contract (Potential for Direct Hire)
Schedule: 1st Shift | Monday – Friday | Onsite
Compensation: $30–$40/hour (Depending on Experience)
Clearance Requirements: Must be eligible to work on DoD projects
Pre-Employment: Must pass drug screen and background check
We are seeking a Mechanical Designer to join the Product Development team of a leading defense contractor that designs and manufactures shelter-based systems, trailer-based solutions, and power generators for the U.S. Department of Defense. Based in Huntsville, AL, this role focuses on supporting the development of trailer-mounted power and water purification systems. The ideal candidate will be experienced in using SolidWorks and AutoCAD to create high-quality models and drawings that support prototyping and production efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with engineers and business development teams to develop design concepts for trailer power and water purification systems
Create detailed 2D drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
Support prototype builds and assist in transitioning designs into full-scale production
Contribute to technical presentations and proposal efforts (IRAD and business development support as needed)
Ensure all designs are manufacturable, reliable, and meet customer and DoD specifications
Provide design input across the entire product lifecycle—from concept through final delivery
Qualifications:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Design, Drafting, or a related technical field (Engineering degree preferred)
Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD
Experience designing trailer power systems, water purification systems, or similar mechanical/electrical products (preferred)
Familiarity with prototype development and production environments
Strong attention to detail and ability to translate engineering concepts into manufacturable designs
Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and business development teams
Creative problem-solver with strong organizational skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
