Job Summary:
A Medical-Surgical Nurse provides direct care to patients in a general medical and surgical setting. These nurses manage a variety of medical c on diti on s, assist with post-operative recovery, and perf or m assessments, administer medicati on s, and ensure the comf or t and well-being of patients.

Patient Care:
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care needs.
M on it or vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, and o x ygen saturati on .
Provide preoperative and postoperative care to patients, including wound care and administering pain medicati on s.
Assist patients with activities of daily living such as feeding, bathing, and dressing.
Provide comf or t and emoti on al supp or t to patients and families.
M edical Administrati on :
Administer prescribed medicati on s and treatments, observing f or side effects or reacti on s.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient rec or ds.
Collab or ate with phy sic ians, surge on s, and other healthcare providers to co or dinate patient care plans.
Prepare patients f or surgical procedures and ensure proper recovery after surgery.

Observe patients’ resp on ses to treatments, changes in symptoms, and complicati on s.
Rep or t any significant changes in patient c on diti on s to phy sic ians or seni or nurses.
Maintain knowledge of patient charts and documentati on acc or ding to hospital policy.
Patient Educati on :
Educate patients and their families on health c on diti on s, treatment plans, and recovery processes.
Provide guidance on home care, medicati on regimens, and lifestyle modificati on s.
Infecti on C on trol and Safety:
Adhere to strict infecti on c on trol protocols.
M on it or patients f or signs of infecti on , particularly after surgery.
Ensure the safety and comf or t of patients during their hospital stay.
Team Collab or ati on :
W or k as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, which may include doct or s, phy sic al therapists, and other nurses.
Participate in shift handoffs and communicate effectively with other team members about patient needs and status.
Emergency Resp on se:
Resp on d appropriately to medical emergencies, including assisting in life-saving procedures when required .
Use critical thinking skills to assess and react to changes in patient status.
Qualificati on s and Requirements:
Educati on : Registered Nurse (RN) with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachel or of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Licensure: Valid state RN license.
Certificati on s: BLS (Ba sic Life Supp or t ) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Supp or t ) may be required .
E x perience: Previous e x perience in a medical-surgical unit is often preferred.
Skills: Str on g clinical assessment skills, ability to w or k in a fast-paced envir on ment, e x cellent communicati on , and interpers on al skills.
W or k Envir on ment:
W or k is typically perf or med in hospital settings such as medical-surgical units, post-operative recovery units, or step-down units.
Nurses may be required to w or k nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on the hospital's staffing needs.
