Job Description

Overview:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Teens Site Director will administer, organize, and implement Programming for Kids aged 11-18. You will provide leadership and supervision of Middle School initiative programming. As the Teen Site Director, you will oversee administrative responsibilities and daily operations. Each day you have the opportunity to create a wholesome environment where teens will be able to develop physically, socially, and emotionally.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise Middle School Initiative site
  • Be available to substitute and travel throughout the region we serve
  • Mentor & coach other site supervisors and counselors within region on YMCA Association standards, state licensing requirements, and other job related
    requirements
  • Develop and facilitate trainings for Youth Development staff on behavior management, expectations, SOPs, and other areas of professional development
  • Complete supply procurement & purchase orders as needed
  • Assist in creating staff schedules for programs listed above
  • Supervise and evaluate site supervisors, counselors, aides, and volunteers if applicable
  • Demonstrate fiscal accountability by following assigned budget guidelines
  • Design and implement curriculum that focuses on social, emotional and cognitive development by using the YMCA teen guidelines
  • Provide caregiving activities and approach
  • Use a variety of different teaching techniques and methods
  • Develop programs and location set up that will provide a safe and nurturing, yet fun environment for youth and staff
  • Evaluate youths engagement and performance, report on every childs progress, ensuring every child is improving
  • Develop and maintain timely communication with parents
  • Identify behavioral problems and provide positive discipline that is age appropriate and maintains respect for the child
  • Collaborate with other colleagues
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations
  • Attend professional opportunities provided
  • Maintain State licensing and YMCA Association Standards and Minimum Guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Verifiable * education or training in work with school-age children in such areas as recreation, education, scouting or 4-H
    • *Verifiable and Satisfactory experience includes experience in the care and supervision of four or more children from the ages of four (4)-eighteen (18) years old, unrelated to the individual, since attaining the age of eighteen (18)
  • Completed at least one of the following qualifications:
    1. A four (4) year college degree with a major such as recreation, outdoor education, education with a specialty in art, elementary or early childhood education, or a subject in the human service field; or
    2. Two years of college training and six (6) months (910 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience, since attaining the age of eighteen (18), in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children; or
    3. Two years of satisfactory * and verifiable * full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience and one of the following qualifications:
      • Complete six semester hours, or nine quarter hours in course work from a regionally accredited college or university; or
      • 40 clock hours of training in course work applicable to school-age children and the department approved courses in injury prevention, and playground safety for School-Aged Child Care Centers within the first nine months of employment.
  • 2 years supervisory experience
  • Additional teaching and/or educational license/certificate is a big advantage
  • Must be able to effectively manage teen behaviors and communication in accordance with YMCA values while focusing on development
  • Must have good communication skills, exhibits energy, and enthusiasm and positively interacts with teens and guardians
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
