Overview Frontline Applicant Tracking - Fremont School Administrative Unit Office 83 The coach must organize and supervise a total sports program, with prior successful coaching experience in the assigned sport, and maintain a knowledgeable understanding of the technical aspects of the sport while continuing to examine new theories and procedures relevant to the field. The coach should model appropriate behavior for student athletes and work in conjunction with athletic directors and the principal. Responsibilities Has a thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Fremont School Board and is responsible for their implementation by the entire staff of the sports program. Has knowledge of existing system, state and league regulations; implements and interprets them for staff. Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels. Supervisory Relationships REPORTS TO: The athletic directors, who provide overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the school principal. SUPERVISES: In several instances, the head coach coordinates with staff in conjunction with the athletic director and the respective principal. Job Goal To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. To promote socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes. To upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, consultations, etc. General The success of athletic programs influences the community’s image; public exposure and pressure for winning are factors but should not override objectives of good sportsmanship and mental health. The job description provides guidance for the function; in cases not covered, the coach should exercise common sense and good judgment. Staff Responsibilities Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances and works to increase morale and cooperation. Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the athletic directors/principal. Student Responsibilities Serves as a mentor to each athlete to promote development of character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Gives constant attention to a student athlete’s grades and conduct. By presence at all practices and games and while traveling, provides guidance and safeguards for each participant. Provides training rules and any unique regulations of the sport to each participant. Follows programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention and emergencies. Completes paperwork on all disabling athletic injuries on proper forms and submits to the athletic office within 24 hours. Directs student managers, assistants and statisticians. Determines discipline, delineates due process procedures when discipline is enforced and communicates with parents when a student is dropped or becomes ineligible. Finance and Equipment Is accountable for all equipment and collects costs for lost or not returned equipment; arranges issuing, storing and reconditioning of equipment. Monitors equipment rooms and coaches’ offices; authorizes entry, issue or requisition of equipment. Ensures athletes are in authorized areas only at appropriate times. Secures doors, lights, windows and locks when leaving the building if custodians are not on duty. Instills respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use. Public Relations Organizes preseason meetings with parents, coaches, players and guests. Promotes the sport within the school and in the community through recruiting athletes and engaging with media and local programs. Is responsible for the quality, effectiveness and accuracy of any oral or written release to local media.
