The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist (CPS) is a licensed pharmacist who applies knowledge, skill, competence and clinical expertise in a specialized area of pharmacy. The CPS has primary accountability for promoting excellence in pharmacy practice and medication use. The roles of the CPS are that of advanced practitioner, educator, consultant, leader and researcher.
The CPS applies their knowledge of pharmacotherapy to directly influence and improve physician prescribing to enhance positive drug therapy outcomes. As an integral member of the healthcare team, the CPS assumes responsibility for the appropriate selection and monitoring of drug therapy through direct patient care activities. Other functions include precepting pharmacy doctoral?level students, training pharmacy residents, participating in staff development, creating opportunities for pharmacists to practice more clinically and promoting rational and cost?effective use of medication at GHS.
