Base pay range

$150,000.00/yr - $180,000.00/yr

Position Summary:

The Director of Finance will serve as a key member of the leadership team and play a critical role in developing and implementing the financial strategy of the organization. This individual will lead all financial operations, including budgeting, financial planning and analysis, accounting, reporting, compliance, and risk management. The Director of Finance will ensure fiscal responsibility and transparency in support of the organizations mission.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Strategy & Leadership

  • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop long-term financial strategies and organizational goals.
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
  • Serve as a thought partner to the Executive Director and Board of Directors on financial matters.
  • Oversee all financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
  • Monitor organizational performance against the annual budget and provide variance analysis.

Accounting & Reporting

  • Maintain and oversee all accounting systems and processes, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors, and prepare audit schedules.
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax and regulatory documents (e.g., Form 990).

Grants & Fund Management

  • Monitor and report on the financial aspects of grants and restricted funds.
  • Collaborate with development staff to prepare grant budgets and financial reports.

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Develop and implement internal financial policies and procedures to ensure effective internal controls.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and funder requirements.

Team Management

  • Supervise finance/accounting staff and support professional development.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment.
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting standards and fund accounting.
  • Proven experience with budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Familiarity with financial software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, Blackbaud) and Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex financial concepts for non-financial stakeholders.
  • High integrity and commitment to the mission and values of the organization.
