Job Description

Join the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County's Roads Crew as a Maintenance Technician II, and help care for the roads, trails, and infrastructure that support over 26,000 acres of protected land.

Work with a supportive team where every day you help preserve nature and improve public access to green spaces through hands-on, diverse projects. Build valuable skills using a variety of tools and equipment while gaining certifications in areas like CDL operation, pesticide application, and wildfire safety.

What You'll Do

  • Maintain and repair asphalt and gravel roads, parking lots, and trails.
  • Operate tractors, backhoes, dump trucks, chainsaws, and other equipment.
  • Assist with natural resource management, including invasive species control and river clearing.
  • Help during snow removal, prescribed burns, and other seasonal work.
  • Support other crews and departments as needed across the forest preserve.

What You'll Need

  • Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of hire.
  • High School Diploma/GED required, 1 - 3 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid Driver's License in good standing.
  • Illinois Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker and airbrakes endorsement within 6 months of employment in good standing.
  • Illinois Department of Agriculture Pesticide Operator's License within six (6) months of employment in good standing.
  • National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) I-100, S-130, S-190, S-290 within two (2) years of employment.
  • Must have and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification or obtain within 6 months.
  • Must pass a medical evaluation and fit test, per OSHA regulations, to ensure a respirator can be safely worn when required.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Schedule, Pay, & Benefits

  • Monday-Friday | 6:15 AM - 2:15 PM.
  • Does include rotating weekend snowplowing during winter.
  • Starting at $26.19 - 29.48 /hour.

  • Based out of West Chicago, IL, with travel to forest preserve project sites throughout DuPage County.
