Tooling Engineer | Kalamazoo, MI

Salary Range: $74,000 - $113,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new tooling, fixtures, and jigs to support manufacturing processes.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot tooling failures, implementing corrective actions to minimize downtime.
  • Manage and optimize tooling maintenance schedules and repair procedures.
  • Collaborate with production, design, and quality teams to ensure tooling meets product specifications and production requirements.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives for tooling design, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Specify and procure tooling materials and components, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for tooling-related defects and implement preventative measures.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software for tooling design, simulation, and analysis.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, stamping, machining, or casting.
  • Proven experience in designing, developing, and optimizing various production tooling (molds, dies, jigs, fixtures).
  • Ability to diagnose tooling issues, perform root cause analysis, and drive continuous improvement.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) or mold flow simulation software.
  • Familiarity with additive manufacturing (3D printing) processes for tooling components or prototypes.
  • Certification in Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Knowledge of specialized tooling materials such as advanced ceramics, carbides, or superalloys.
